Mental Health

Mental disorders often begin in childhood and are borne by families without adequate and timely treatment due to a lack of awareness and/or lack of resources. Without access to professional care, mental disorders prevent children from developing to their full potential and from leading well-balanced life.

The “Nurturing Mental Health” project targets Palestinian refugee children and adolescents aged between 5 to 18 years with mental health disorders residing in Nahr El-Bared camp.

The project is supported by Danish Muslim Aid in partnership with Beit Atfal Assumoud.

Treatment and follow-up sessions

This project provides psychological and psych-social services to children and adolescents with mental health illnesses residing in Nahr El-Bared camp. A professional psychiatrist will follow-up on existing cases and assess all new cases referred to the center, and will set an individual intervention plan, which will be implemented in cooperation with the psychologist. While sessions will be provided at the center, social workers will pay home visits to follow-up on individual child’s development within the family.
